The new car market has accomplished another record month with 110,702 sales recorded for September 2023.
This is an 18.3 per cent increase for the same period in 2022 and marks a new September record. It edges out the August 2023 record by 736 new car deliveries (110,702 vs. 109,966).
Four of the past five months have been record-breaking months and new car sales figures are at almost 900,000 for the year.
“The record result shows that Australian car buyers value a broad choice of vehicles in a range of price brackets that suit the family or business budget,” said FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber.
The Toyota HiLux was, once again, the top-selling car for the month with 5,776 sales followed by the Ford Ranger with 5,429. For a list of the top 10 cars, please see the list at the end.
SUVs and Light Commercial vehicles accounted for 79.4 per cent of sales while passenger cars made up 16.8 per cent.
“Consumers have a choice of vehicles across 20 light vehicle segments – from small passenger cars through to larger utes – confirming Australia’s position as one of the most open and competitive new vehicle markets in the world,” said Mr Weber.
“Our advice is that the supply of vehicles into Australia, including electric vehicles, continues to improve so those consumers who want to buy a new vehicle should visit a dealer or manufacturer.”
