Hyundai Motorsport has verified that it has commenced work on an electric race car that “will herald a new motorsport for the company”.
It was designed and built at the racing division HQ in Alzenau, Germany and is planned to be revealed at Hyundai’s media day at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
The vehicle will be the first electric race car to be developed by Hyundai, though it remains to be seen if it will be made for championship series.
“For many months, our team in Alzenau has been working hard on an exciting electric vehicle and soon we will be able to share the fruits of these labours,” said Andrea Adamo, team director for Hyundai Motorsport.
“It promises to be a new chapter for our company, a natural extension to our motorsport activities, one that links closely to the current trends and innovations in the wider automotive industry.”
