Month-to-month the top two best-selling cars are usually Toyota’s HiLux and Ford’s Ranger. However, with the rising interest in electric cars and ongoing supply constraints, the nation’s top 10 best-selling cars have experienced a bit of a reshuffle.
VFACTS new car sales figures show that the Ford Ranger was the top-selling car in July ahead of HiLux, which was the top-selling car in June. The Ranger had 5163 sales (deliveries, not orders) for the 4×2 and 4×4 models against 4670 for the Hilux.
While the HiLux and Ranger seem to be battling it out each month, there’s a lot of competition amongst the other top ten cars.
Year-to-date the Tesla Model Y is becoming the nation’s best-selling mid-sized SUV and electric car, and the fourth-highest-selling new car with 17,332 registrations.
The majority of the models in the top 10 are utes and SUVs, with Hyundai’s i30 the only model that departs from this. The Hyundai i30 is available as a hatchback or sedan.
